Common Website / SEO Technique Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

If you are trying to get your business's website to the top of the search engines that this article is for you..

Because SEO tactics help drive traffic towards websites and the search engine algorithms used to rate websites, many people have attempted to cheat the system for better results.

In response to this, search engines have developed penalties for cheaters. There are both whitehat SEO tactics and blackhat SEO tactics.
The difference between whitehat search engine optimization techniques and blackhat search engine optimization techniques means understanding the difference between fair and reasonable SEO tactics and those that violate the rules of search engines.

Whitehat techniques maintain the integrity and authority of your website. Blackhat techniques use unethical cheating or spamming methods to achieve results and break the rules and regulations of search engines. Because these technologies and tactics change over time, search engines are designed with certain algorithms to remove them as they change. So blackhat techniques that work today will most likely not work in the near future.
Blackhat SEO tactics usually work quickly to raise your search engine results listings.

The problem with these tactics is that:

1: You generally will have difficulties creating a quality and highly useful website if it is filled with keywords and spam. These tactics can make your website difficult to read and use. While these blackhat SEO techniques may get your website where more people will see it, if the potential customer has a hard time navigating your site they will most like not purchase your product or service.
2: Eventually, most likely sooner rather than later, the search engines will discover your blackhat techniques and will ban your webpage from their search engines all together. This will completely remove your chances of reaching customers. It is very hard to get a website that has been banned for unethical practices back onto the search engine’s results. The short term increased visibility that blackhat SEO techniques offer you will be out-weighed by the negative consequences of being discovered and labeled as an unethical website.
Common SEO Mistakes to Avoid

Keyword Stuffing
This will always get you into trouble with the google police..  :)
Keyword stuffing is the most popular blackhat SEO tactic and is easily recognized by search engine. Don’t try to force as many keywords as possible into your website’s content. Stick to your keyword densities.

Bad Meta Tags

Don’t incorporate Meta tag keywords that are not relevant to your website’s niche. Sometimes people will add in the name of a famous celebrity just to get more Google hits. Google and other search engines will penalize you for this.
Another cheating technique involves inserting as many keywords as possible into all aspects of your webpage, including Meta tags.
Avoid keyword stuffing your Meta tags.

Bad Backlinks

Link Spamming

Linking spamming is a technique in which a webmaster will attempt to set up as many links between webpages as possible without having these links based on merit or relevancy. These non-relevant links attempt to cheat the search engine algorithm into placing these websites at a higher ranking.

Discovery of non-relevant link spamming will get your website kicked off of most of the large search engines.

Sybil Linking

This type of linking usually involves creating several web sites under different domain names that all link to one another in an attempt to fool the search engine algorithms and obtain a higher ranking.

Linking Software

Linking software is designed to automate the process of search engine optimization for the number of links for a particular website. It is considered to be a form of spamming because it often does not connect websites on the basis of topic relevancy.

To avoid the possible repercussions of being labeled as a link spammer by the major search engines, it is best to build up a network of backlinks that are based on keywords related to your website’s topic or receive backlinks from trusted authority sites.

The Number Of Smartphones In Use Is About To Pass The Number Of PCs

Is your website mobile friendly?

The technology analyst Benedict Evans recently tweeted the chart below, which is based on data from Enders Analysis.

Evans states that the "estimated" amount of smartphones used now is about to pass the number of PCs in use — Most likely in the first part of 2014.

The number of smartphones purchased per year blew past PCs sold per year a few years ago. But the installed base of Personal computers (PC's) is more than 1.5 billion, and they usually last a lot longer than smartphones. Tablets, which will most likely start outselling Personal computers (PCs) next year, are still a far-distant third in terms of installed base.

Is your website mobile ready?  You could be missing a ton of potential customers because your website is not smartphone friendly.   Find out how Rikwebguy can help your business website become mobile friendly.

In a follow-up tweet, Evans notes that the Personal Computers (PC) installed base is estimated using 5-year trailing PC sales, while the smartphone and tablet installed base uses 2-year trailing sales.

Based on a still-functioning home-office PC from 2005 that I still use occasionally, as well as an only recently deceased iPhone 3GS, both usage lives may be conservative.

Here's Evans' tweet:
